Quality Assurance

Summit Power operates all projects in accordance with AS/NZS 4801:2001 standards.

We are committed to the ongoing achievement of quality at all levels and have developed systems and procedures to ensure work practices reflect this commitment. Summit Power is committed to achieving the highest standards of quality. To fulfil our clients' expectations and needs, Summit Power will maintain and build upon its reputation and competitive position through the following procedures:

  • Implementing and maintaining systems and procedures which satisfy ISO 9001 by allocating the necessary resources
  • Meeting or exceeding the quality requirements of regulations and contractual specifications applicable to our work
  • Continuously improving our systems by measuring our progress against defined targets and developing strategies to address areas of shortfall
  • Planning, managing and documenting our work activities in accordance with our systems and any additional client requirements
  • Performing work to a consistently high standard and promptly acting upon any opportunities
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement through training and employee involvement in developing better systems
  • Providing a framework for safety and quality issues to be addressed and documented.
Quality Assurance at Summit Power

Records and Document Management

Summit Power will prepare and maintain a database of all documentation to monitor the quality assurance and receipt of all materials ordered and supplied to site. Progress monitoring includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Daily personnel time records (head count and hours)
  • Vehicle inspections
  • Inspection and testing checklists, carried out on all kits to eliminate errors in product numbers or types prior to delivery. Testing checklists ensure the quality control of all products to Australian Standards before release from our warehouse facilities.
  • Stock registers for receipt of incoming goods, to track status of orders.
  • Supplier Registers

Continuous Improvement

The ISO 9001 standard encompasses our companywide commitments, policies and processes around continuous improvement. These include the improvement of internal efficiency, individual requirements and the level of performance our industry requires. Continuous Improvement across the project will include:

  • Setting and complying with critical targets, such as KPIs and benchmarks
  • Ongoing staff training and cultural awareness
  • Agile approach to cost-savings and optimisation of processes through procurement, global supply chain management and best practice
  • Internal audits and inspections.
‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ process at Summit Power

Using the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ process, we continuously cycle between four steps to improve the way we do things:

Plan: Identify or create an opportunity and plan an improvement.

Do: Test the improvement. Undertake a small-scale experiment

Check: Review the test, analyse the results and identify lessons learned

Act: If the experiment was unsuccessful, restart the cycle with a different plan. If it was successful, implement it more broadly. Use what was learned to plan new improvements, beginning the cycle again.

The benefit of this process is that it enables steady, methodical, evidence-based improvements. New ideas are tested on a small scale before being rolled out more broadly, and all decisions are data-driven to ensure we can rigorously measure the effects of our changes.

Procurement and Supply Chain

Summit Power has procurement policies and processes in place to closely manage its local and international supply chain. We focus on value for money, compliance, quality purchases and approved suppliers. Where practicable, we procure goods locally to economically support the region. Some hardware required must meet strict compliance guidelines and standards and can only be sourced internationally.

All Summit Power global suppliers are pre-qualified against internal supply chain capability assessments that cover modern slavery and ethical sourcing requirements. All suppliers have been pre tested to confirm reliability, manufacturing quality and suitability for the Australian market.

Design Management and Control

As part of our standard planning for individual projects, we have project design management and control procedures in place. These ensure that the Project Manager works with the Quality Assurance Engineers to ensure all standards and regulatory requirements are met. The Project Manager in consultation with the customer will review all available information to enable a proper evaluation and understanding of design needs including:

  • Scope requirements
  • Specifications and standards related to the Supply
  • Design criteria to meet specified outcomes
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Design output documentation and approval by the customer

Any incomplete, ambiguous or conflicting information will be resolved with the customer before design planning is undertaken.

The diagram outlines our methodology for the supply of transmission hardware. In parallel to these stages, there is additional quality assurance activities being independently undertaken to ensure Summit Power delivers high-quality products in accordance with Australian Standards and project requirements.
01

Supplier Evaluation

We start by engaging independent third-party experts to conduct a comprehensive audit of our suppliers' facilities. This evaluation includes a thorough review of their capabilities, processes, equipment, and supply levels. The auditor's role is to provide an unbiased assessment, legitimising the operations of our suppliers.
02

Order Placement

Once we are satisfied with the supplier's capabilities, we proceed with order placement. Raw materials are received and checked to ensure compliance with project specifications. Our commitment to accuracy is upheld during this stage, as we ensure that all drawings are precise and align with project requirements.
03

Manufacturing Process

During the manufacturing process, we continue to maintain a vigilant approach. Third-party auditors closely monitor the manufacturing operations, capturing photographs of the process and equipment being used. This helps us ensure that the production adheres to the highest quality standards.
04

Completion and Quality Assurance

Upon completion of the manufacturing process, a detailed audit is conducted against approved drawings. Electrical and mechanical testing of the products is performed to verify their performance and reliability. Additionally, we assess packaging compliance with Australian standards. Thorough documentation, including photos of goods being loaded onto trucks, further enhances our commitment to quality assurance.
05

Internal QA Checks

At Summit Power, our dedication to quality assurance extends to our own facilities. Upon receiving shipped goods at our Townsville QA facility, we meticulously re-check all items against approved drawings. Rigorous testing is conducted to ensure that each product meets our high standards before being kitted up and shipped to the project site.
06

Delivery to Project Site

Our commitment to excellence continues during the delivery process. Our fleet drivers work closely with project managers to ensure the seamless receipt of goods. We conduct a physical check of all items in the kit to verify completeness and quality. Additionally, we accommodate any additional requests for materials promptly. Sustainability is also an integral part of our process, as we ensure responsible waste management by picking up empty cages and packaging waste.
At Summit Power, our proven methodology stands as a testament to our dedication to quality and excellence. We are committed to delivering the best transmission hardware solutions for your projects, adhering to the highest standards of performance and reliability.
